Cambodian New Year Festival 2005

The Cambodian-American community of Santa Clara County celebrated its 20th annual cultural new year, Year of the Rooster, on Saturday, April 9, 2005 from 9:00 AM to midnight. Typically, this event is celebrated on April 13, 14, and 15, a three-day event, but we will host this celebration for only one day.

Mis Kantaerae (Hermit's daughter) Dance originated by minor Khmer in Kompong Speu Province
Spiritual Worship Dance
The Sentimental Dance: the recent choreographic creation by the late dance mistress, Mrs. Chea Samy, in the 1980's. The theme depicts courting gestures and, at its close, the sadness brought about by the separation of two lovers.
Umbrella Dance: originated in Pailin, the southest region of Cambodia. Pailin is known as its gem-rich soil wich contains many kinds of precious stones such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald.
Robam Gane - traditional folk dance orignated in Stugn Treng province, northern region of Cambodia.
