I'm very thankful having come across the the caraweb website. I am trying to write about my family history, wanting to know where and when my parents and I were born. The information about how we called the months and years are very useful. But I am still confused in knowing how to convert exact date of my parents birthday to the western calendar. For example, what is the date in the western calendar for 14 Roje, month of Jaad, Year of Kau(Pig's Year)Can anyone provide more info. on that?
Thank you so much!

I am so grateful to you and the Cambodian American Resource Agency for answering my request to find a Cambodian representative in my area to attend our peace pole dedication ceremony on September 21st, here in Bridgeport. Within what seemed a matter of moments (40 minutes to be exact), my request via the web site went to California and back to Timothy Chhim in New York who called me on my cell phone.

Thank you again. The service you provide through the Cambodian American Resource Agency is a much needed one that allows both Khmer and non-Khmer people to connect and get what they need.

Thank you again for this invaluable service.

I am so glad to hear there is a school for Khmer kids to learn our language. I think it is very important that each and everyone of Khmer people should learn to read and write in our language but sadly not every khmer knows how to read or write in Khmer. Unfortunately, I am Khmer Krom. For some Khmer don't understand or know about Khmer Krom, we are the lost civilization. Many people around the world does not know who we are. We have been hide from the world by the Vietnamese. They stole our land and murdered many of Khmer Krom. Once again, we will always always be Khmer does not matter what other khmer calls us Vietnamese or traitor. We are never traitor, Cambodia is our brother and sister. We must help each other and reunited. Many Khmer hate Khmer Krom, they always get the wrong impression and idea. We should not kill each other, our enemy washes our mind so to make us keep hate and kill each other. Sadly to see, i wish i can read or write Khmer. I can only speak. One day I hope i can read and write them. it is very important to me. I want to thank you to all teachers, family, and friends who try to keep Khmer languag alive.

Greeting

Good morning Mr. Yean, My name is Sovath I got this your agency website through a Technical Assistant University of Rhode Island who is working with me on difference issues related to health and Tobacco use. I couldnt help as i go through the website from a quick glance that your Organization in your city is well established. I really admired your community works and effort that you put into this wonderful program. I wanted to express my congratulation and appreciation to all your staffs for working hard to keep the community going and also make the Cambodian History and Cambodian future alive and continue to grow and setting the good example for the children of tomorrow. Like my dad always say, The people who are doing good works is always wrong and the people who never done anything just sit back and criticize. So I rather be wrong and do good deeds rather than right and do nothing.
Take care and if i get the chance i would definitely more deeply into the site. Respectfully, Sovath

Dear Mr. Hammond, Thank you for visiting our website. Actually, we neither have the information nor the influence on whether Cambodia will send a pageant delegation. That is entirely up to the current government of Cambodia.

Hello.. Since Miss Universe 2005 will be held in Thailand, will we see Cambodia send a delegate to this pageant? Thank you

Hello Sosorhang,

Thank you for visiting our website and commenting on the content. Sometime when we step outside of our home and looking back at it from afar, we feel different about it. It is also true about our home country. We may work and live abroad, but our heart remembers and appreciates our country and culture. You are familiar with this nostalgic feeling as I am sure.

The purpose of our organization is to perpetuate exactly that feeling, and to promote visibility of our unique people and culture. And let us hope that your thought about someday all Cambodians unite for the good of the country and people will soon come true.

Regards, Phillip Lim

Posted by: - Dara    [ Sun Oct 05, 2003 4:16 am ]     Post subject: Cross Cultural Interaction: The Barriers
Hi,

Personally, I feel that there are many barriers where cross cultural interaction is concern.
There is first, the problem of understanding what the other is trying to bring across. This can be much reduced if (let's say) the Cambodian side is working hard in his or her English and has enough time to fine-tuning his or her accent. Secondly, even though some time we understand what the other person is saying, we don't really get what the real meaning is. Thirdly, there is cultural issue too. For instant, American greets another with the gesture of a firm hand-shake. Trying to do that with a Cambodian elder and they will show our American friend the "black face". By that, I mean to say the elder is not happy. Fourthly, there is still this challenge about the topic of the conversation. Silent pause is never a comfortable moment for American where as it is not such a big deal to Cambodian.

Of course, there are still a couple more issues. Some of them includes the place where you hang out, the food that you eat, the friends that you mix with ... etc. Well, that is about all of the obsticles that a little boy like myself can think of.
